Contraception counselling Munich - individual, competent and at eye level
Contraception is a matter of trust - and no method works forever. Whether you are looking for a hormone-free alternative after years of using the pill, want to make a new decision after a pregnancy or simply want to know what options are available today: You will find the answers at MVZ Dr Geisenhofer in Munich.
Choosing the right contraceptive depends on your health, your circumstances, your family planning and your personal wishes. This is exactly what we are here for:
Contraception counselling with our team of doctors - individual and at eye level
Every woman is individual - and so is contraceptive counselling. What is ideal for a 20-year-old may not be suitable for a woman after the birth of her first child. What has worked well for years may no longer be suitable for a new stage of life.
Our medical team will accompany you competently and sensitively - through all phases of life and with all concerns relating to contraception and women's health. During the consultation, your situation takes centre stage: your health history, your tolerance to hormones, your plans and your everyday life circumstances. Only then will we discuss together which contraceptive options are suitable for you.
Contraceptives at a glance: Which methods do we offer?
At MVZ Dr Geisenhofer, we advise you on all common contraceptive methods - hormonal, hormone-free and long-term. Every patient receives individual contraceptive counselling that is tailored to her life situation and needs. Here is an overview of your options:
The pill
The pill is still one of the most commonly used hormonal contraceptives. It usually contains oestrogen and progestogen, which prevent ovulation and change the cervical mucus. When taken correctly, its Pearl Index is between 0.1 and 0.9 - making it one of the safest contraceptive methods available. The Pearl Index indicates how many out of 100 women become pregnant within a year despite using a particular contraceptive method.
However, not every woman tolerates the pill in the same way. Mood swings, changes in libido or skin changes can occur. We will discuss which pill - or whether a hormonal method at all - is right for you in a consultation.
Have your pill checked - book an appointment nowThe spiral
The IUD is one of the most effective and popular contraceptive methods worldwide. It is inserted into the uterus on an outpatient basis and works for between three and eight years, depending on the preparation - without you having to think about contraception every day. For patients looking for long-term, reliable contraception, the IUD is often the best choice. We differentiate between two variants:
Hormone coilThe contraceptive pill: continuously releases small amounts of a progestogen, partially suppresses ovulation and thickens the cervical mucus. It also suppresses the build-up of the uterine lining. Pearl Index: 0.16.
Copper IUD / copper chainWorks without hormones - the copper released inhibits sperm motility. It also causes a localised change in the lining of the uterus and prevents the implantation of a fertilised egg. Ideal for women who want to avoid hormones. Pearl index: 0.3-0.8.
The insertion and removal of the IUD is carried out by our medical team directly at the MVZ - competently and as comfortably as possible.
Arrange your IUD consultation appointment nowThe contraceptive rod (Implanon)
The contraceptive rod is an approximately four-centimetre-long implant that is inserted under the skin of the upper arm. It continuously releases the hormone etonogestrel and works reliably for up to three years. With a Pearl Index of 0.0-0.5, Implanon is one of the safest hormonal contraceptives - and you don't have to worry about a thing. For patients looking for long-term contraception without daily use, the contraceptive stick is a good method.
Discuss contraceptive sticks - Book an appointment nowThe vaginal ring
The vaginal ring is inserted into the vagina for three weeks and continuously releases hormones that prevent ovulation. This is followed by a one-week break. The Pearl Index is 0.4-0.65. For patients who find taking the pill every day impractical, the contraceptive ring can be a pleasant alternative.
Is the vaginal ring right for me? - Arrange a consultation nowThe contraceptive patch
The contraceptive patch is applied to the skin once a week and continuously releases hormones. It has a Pearl Index of 0.3-0.9 and is particularly suitable for women who prefer hormonal contraception without daily use.
Get advice on contraceptive patches nowThe diaphragm
The diaphragm is a hormone-free barrier method that is inserted into the vagina before sexual intercourse. It should be used in combination with a spermicide (spermicidal gel) and offers an alternative for women who prefer hormone-free contraception.
Request adviceSterilisation
For women who have completed their family planning, sterilisation is a permanent contraceptive method with a Pearl Index of almost 0. The procedure is surgical and should be regarded as a final decision. We will advise you in a detailed consultation before this step is considered.
Arrange a consultation appointmentNatural contraception: symptothermal method
The symptothermal method is based on the daily observation of body signs such as basal body temperature and cervical mucus to determine fertile days. It requires discipline and precise knowledge of your own cycle. The Pearl Index varies between 2 and 24 - it is therefore significantly less reliable than hormonal or mechanical alternatives, but is interesting for women who want to have children or as a supplementary method.
Not sure which method is right for you? Our team will advise you individually - with the aim of finding the best solution for your life situation together.
