At our practice in Munich, we are guided by the maternity guidelines and offer you all the recommended check-ups.

Comprehensive maternity care: your well-being takes centre stage

Pregnancy care in accordance with the maternity guidelines is a proven system of regular examinations that monitors the healthy development of your child and recognises possible risks at an early stage. At Geisenhofer MVZ Munich, we offer you complete prenatal care with all the recommended services.

Your first appointment: The pregnancy is confirmed

If you suspect you are pregnant or have a positive pregnancy test, make an appointment with us. At this first visit:

Let's take a detailed medical history

We will discuss your previous medical history and any risks

We confirm the pregnancy using ultrasound

Let us calculate your expected date of birth

Let's create your maternity record

Let us inform you about the process of preventive care

The maternity record is your most important document during pregnancy. All examination results are documented here. Bring it with you to every appointment.

Make an appointment

Regular check-ups: The timetable through pregnancy

Maternity care includes regular check-ups at set intervals:

Every four weeks until the 32nd week of pregnancy

From the 32nd week of pregnancy every fortnight, then weekly towards the due date

If the due date is exceeded every two days from the calculated date of birth

The following are carried out as standard at every preventive medical check-up:

Weight control: Continuous weight gain is normal and important. We monitor your weight in order to recognise excessive weight gain or stagnation at an early stage.

Blood pressure measurement: Elevated blood pressure can be an indication of pregnancy complications. Regular monitoring is therefore important.

Urinalysis: We check the urine for protein, sugar and bacteria. Abnormal values can indicate gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia or infections.

Determination of the foetal position: By palpating your abdomen, we determine how your baby is lying and how well it is growing.

CTG (cardiotocography): From the 30th week of pregnancy, a CTG is carried out if necessary. This records your child's heartbeat and any contractions.

Ultrasound examinations: Imaging diagnostics for your safety

Three major ultrasound examinations are planned according to the guidelines:

Between the 9th and 12th week

Between the 19th and 22nd week (organ screening to exclude malformations)

Between the 29th and 32nd week

Laboratory tests during pregnancy

Various blood tests are carried out at the beginning of the pregnancy:

Blood grouping and rhesus factor

Antibody screening test

Rubella immune status

Test for infections (Lues, HIV, hepatitis B)

Toxoplasmosis test (individual healthcare service)

Cytomegalovirus test (individual healthcare service)

Ringelrötel test (individualised birth control service)

Hepatitis B test

In the further course of the pregnancy:

Blood glucose load test (screening for gestational diabetes) in the 24th to 28th week of pregnancy

B streptococcus test in the 35th to 37th week of pregnancy to rule out an infection (individualised maternity service)

High-risk pregnancies: specialised care for special situations

Around one in three pregnancies in Germany is categorised as a high-risk pregnancy. This does not automatically mean that complications will occur - it simply means that certain factors are present that make closer monitoring advisable. At Geisenhofer MVZ Munich, we have particular experience in the care of high-risk pregnancies and offer you the security you need in this situation.

What constitutes a high-risk pregnancy?

A pregnancy is categorised as a high-risk pregnancy if certain factors are present that could increase the risk of complications.

Maternal age:

First-time mothers under the age of 18

First-time mothers over 35 years of age

Multiple births over 40 years

With increasing age, the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, gestational diabetes and high blood pressure increases.

Pre-existing conditions of the mother:

Diabetes mellitus

High blood pressure

Thyroid diseases

Autoimmune diseases

Epilepsy

Heart diseases

Kidney diseases

Coagulation disorders

Mental illnesses

These diseases require particularly careful monitoring and often interdisciplinary care together with medical specialists.

Previous pregnancy complications:

Previous miscarriages or stillbirths

Earlier premature births

Previous caesarean section

Serious pregnancy complications in previous pregnancies (pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome)

Previous children with malformations or genetic diseases

Current pregnancy complications:

Multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets)

Bleeding during pregnancy

Premature labour

Suspected growth retardation of the child

Abnormalities in prenatal diagnostics

Gestational diabetes (gestational diabetes)

Pregnancy-induced high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia

Too much or too little amniotic fluid

Placentation disorders

Rhesus incompatibility

Cervical shortening

Special circumstances:

Severely overweight or underweight

Addictive disorders

Stressful social situation or psychosocial crises

Consultation appointment requests

Collaboration with midwives: Support at all levels

Ideally, holistic pregnancy care also includes support from a midwife.
